This is a magnificent antique painting of the saint. It shows St Borromeo wearing red cardinal’s robes gazing at a large crucifix in his hands with a skull on the table before him. His halo is of radiant bright gold.
Reverse glass painting is an ancient folk art tradition of Bavaria. This piece is likely from the early turn of the century. The backing is also beautifully painted and held in place with wooden pegs. Fantastic.
