This is a vintage portable devotional. The case is burgundy red with gold detailing and a beautifully detailed clasp. The doors open to reveal an image of Christ in profile with a simple and elegant halo. The image is brass against a velvet background and the doors are lined in silk.
Beneath the image is a plate with the handwritten words “Rome '45”. Presumably, this was purchased as a reminder of a trip or pilgrimage to Rome in 1945. This was the last year of WWII and one can imagine the memories this piece would invoke.
Please note: The writing is very light and appears to be in pencil. It could possibly be removed, however, we did not test this.
Condition: There is a water stain on one door, and the outer case shows some wear. Please see pictures.
Dimensions: 5" tall x 3.75" wide x 0.75" deep; 7.5" long fully open

This is a stunning antique holy water font. The central image is an elongated Chi Rho christogram set in classic Art Deco period framing. The piece is metal with a bright brassy finish and a fluted plastic font bowl. Made in Germany.
Chi Rho Christogram:
According to the ancient historian Eusebius of Caesarea (circa 300 AD), Emperor Constantine I, who was not Christian, had a vision while on the march with his army. The emperor and his entire army saw a cross above the sun with the inscription “By this sign you will conquer” in Greek. Later, Christ appeared to him in a dream and instructed Constantine to use this sign as a protection in battle. Constantine ordered a likeness of the vision to be used as his new military standard and went on to win his battles. This insignia is now known as the Chi- Rho.
Constantine went on to study Christian theology and called a stop to the ongoing persecutions. He also decriminalized Christian worship with the Edict of Milan which allowed Christianity to flourish safely for the first time.
Condition: There are small scratches and wear in the finish. Please See Pictures.
