Vintage Last Rites Box

$145.00

This is a beautiful vintage sick call set. The box displays a wood cross with a gold-finished corpus beneath an arch, meant to evoke a sanctuary. It is designed to either stand alone or be hung on a wall. The back panel slides off to provide access to the stored sacramentals. This set contains an extra crucifix, two candles, a glass holy water bottle, and unused linen and cotton.

Last Rites Sets:

These boxes were used in Catholic homes to store the items needed by the priest for the Anointing of the Sick and for Extreme Unction. The only items necessary for these rites are a crucifix, blessed candles, and holy water. Many sets, though, would have additional items such as cotton for the oil, a linen cloth, a spoon, a plate, and prayer books. Some would store personal keepsakes such as rosaries and holy cards, as well.
