This is a vintage last rites set for home use. It contains all of the items needed to prepare for a priest’s visit: a crucifix, two candle holders, two silver plates engraved with the “IHS”, and a holy water bottle. Each piece is finished in bright silver. Absolutely magnificent.
This set comes in a case lined in purple satin with fitted spots for each piece, including space for two candles. The candle holders are fixed to the case, while the other pieces are removable.
Last Rites Sets:
These boxes were once used in Catholic homes to store the items needed by a priest for the Anointing of the Sick and for Extreme Unction. The only items necessary for these rites are a crucifix, blessed candles, and holy water. Many sets, though, would have additional items such as cotton for the oil, a linen cloth, a spoon, a plate, and prayer books. Some would store personal keepsakes such as rosaries and holy cards, as well.
Condition: There is some remnant wax beneath the candle holders. Please see pictures.
Dimensions: Crucifix - 7" tall; Plates - 5" dia.; Case - 13” long x 8” wide x 3” deep
This is a unique religious devotional brooch. The center is a petite image of the Blessed Virgin Mary in profile enameled in beautiful bright blue. This medal is framed in pearly lucite on a gold finished background. Gorgeous!
This is a gorgeous vintage rosary. The beads are delicate ovals made of luminous mother of pearl. The centerpiece is hexagonal with an image of the Blessed Virgin Mary in profile. The crucifix is very elegant and includes roses carved into the cross behind the corpus. “France” is printed on the reverse of the crucifix.
This is a fantastic pair of antique bookends. They depict Saint George as he vanquishes the infamous dragon, representing the devil. Saint George is shown in full medieval armor including a feather plume cresting his helmet. His huge muscular horse is rearing as if to trample the evil at its feet in aid of his rider. The image is vibrant and alive. Wonderful.
This is a rare vintage devotional piece. It is a clock designed to help those who wish to offer spiritual communion in union with Holy Mass. At any given moment, Mass is being prayed somewhere in the world, and this piece can locate (within the hour) where a Mass is being offered. The user dials in their current time, and the windows will show three locations around the world that might be offering Mass.
The front of the piece has an image of Christ crucified with two figures below Him catching His blood in a chalice. Between the figures it reads: “My Sacrifice in His.” Printed around the outer edge are the words, “I offer Thee the merits of the Most Precious Blood now being offered in the Mass in _____”, with the blank filled in with the name of a city on the P.M. dial.
On the reverse is the concurrent A.M. location with the following prayer: “Eternal Father, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I wish to unite myself with Jesus, now offering His Precious Blood in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.”
This piece is roughly the size of an old pocket watch and was likely attached to a chain in similar fashion.
