Warner Sallman “Head of Christ” Lithograph & Last Rites Set

$100.00

Sold

This is a magnificent vintage piece for home devotions. A framed lithograph of Warner Sallman’s famous “Head of Christ” painting is mounted in a fixed frame that doubles as the cover of the sick call set. The box is designed to be hung on a wall until needed and then removed to create the altar for a priest’s home visit.

These boxes were used in Catholic homes to store the items needed by the priest for the anointing of the sick and for extreme unction. The only items necessary for these rites are a crucifix, blessed candles, and holy water. However, many sets would traditionally hold additional items such as cotton for the oil, a linen cloth, a spoon, a plate, and prayer books.

This set comes with two unused candles, a spoon, two mini glass bowls, and the original ball of cotton. It is dated 1941 in the lower left corner and appears to have never been used.

Condition: There are linen remnants stuck to the crucifix and inside the box. It must have disintegrated, leaving only the fibers. Presumably, this could be easily removed. Please see pictures.
